ABOUT THE BOOK
Over 50% of marriages end in divorce. Christians are not exempt from this statistic. In my book, For Christians who are Seriously Dating or Would Like to Be, I explain that part of the problem is that most couples do not find out, until they are married, which areas in life they and their spouse are non-compatible in. This is often the case even if premarital counseling was provided.
I contend that since it is psychologically and socially more difficult to break of an engagement than it is to break off a dating relationship, couples should begin asking certain questions before getting engaged in an effort to determine whether or not there is enough compatibility to move the relationship further. For Christians who are Seriously Dating or Would Like to Be is, what I call a "compatibility Journal." After each question, there is space for the reader to write down the answers that his or her significant other has given.
The book is specifically geared towards adult Christians and includes questions about religious beliefs, lifestyle, ex-spouses, family and friends, children, work, finances, money, division of labor in the home, sex and sex appeal, and personality. Questions that help reveal whether or not a person might have a tendency towards domestic violence are also included. The book is most effective when used as an enhancement in pastoral or ministerial premarital counseling but can also stand alone as a self-help book. Many Detroit area church singles ministries are adapting the book.
Although the book is targeted towards Christians, the general public will also find it useful. And although the book is designed for the pre-engagement stage of dating, those who are engaged will find it beneficial as well. Additionally, many married people have bought the book as a gift item for their adult children or for their friends. And some of them have even bought the book for themselves!
MANY PEOPLE have purchased this book as a gift for someone they know who is dating or who is already engaged to be married. There are those who have also purchased the book for themselves in order to get a better idea as to whether or not they should continue dating the person they are dating. And quite a few married people have purchased the book too!
If you are dating, or would like to date some day, you will find this book very useful. This is a "no-holds-barred" type of book in which I urge you to ask questions of your significant other (and for your significant other to ask the same questions of you) that Christians may not necessarily be prone to ask. I provide space for you to write all of his or her answers down. It's sort of like writing in a journal, sort of a journal and workbook combined.
